A track improvement project to improve tracks and lessen noise around Westmont Station
The Westmont Viaduct track improvement project involves the replacement of train tracks and underlying concrete along the entire length of the Westmont Viaduct including the Westmont Station. An engineering evaluation revealed the original existing concrete and embedded track anchors were nearing the end of their useful life.
The project includes the removal and replacement of existing rails, concrete pads and fasteners, which are original to the rail system, and the installation of new fasteners and rail along a 2,000-foot section of the PATCO line, from Chestnut Avenue through the Westmont Station to Carlton Avenue. The new track is expected to reduce noise caused by vibration from passing trains. In addition, this project installs permanent safety railings along the outside of the track for the protection of workers on this project and future projects.
